20 Things You Should Know About Item Upgrade
WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade item increases the level of an item by +3. A random extra substat is also added to every upgrade.
Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.
You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.
The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used for weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. button, which will display a preview of the item upgrading when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.
Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current item level upgrade level. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.
Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be increased by having players complete specific achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.
In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true even if the items are from another set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available after certain milestones are achieved.
Crests
When it comes to upgrading gear in WoW, players have a couple of options. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.
The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade item requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the kind of equipment that is being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.
Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once an item reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade items their gear up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.
Another notable change is that crests only have one purpose and it's crucial to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance, it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to make. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
