Three Wheeled Buggies

Whether you're looking for a buggy to jog with or just a stroller that can be used for neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight areas.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram fitted with air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with a 360deg front swivel wheel. They are susceptible, however to punctures. Make sure you have an emergency repair kit.

Sturdy frame

New data show that three-wheeled buggies, the emblem of the noughties, which were more expensive than common sense, are in rapid decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers that can handle a wider range of terrain, while also looking swanky and being easy to push.

The principle is that the larger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with bumpy ground and rough pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front allow you to move and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with an infant and a 3 wheel stroller brands-year-old child and found it to be extremely sturdy. It was able to handle cobbles, grass, and rough pavements, aswell as dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt sturdy to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres, which are inflatable and require to be pumped up occasionally and have a suspension built-in. This was very comfortable for my kids.

The shape and size of the seat is a further factor to consider. The seat should be big enough for your child to be at ease and to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies have an option to lie flat completely while others only allow for the parent to be facing one.

An excellent option for taking on off-road or muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is suitable for a single child from birth and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth until age 4 and comes with a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a big padded seat. The storage options are good as well, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets inside the hood and an attractive pouch at the rear of the seat unit.

Wheels with a greater diameter

Larger wheels mean your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - ideal for buggies that are off-road. They also help you maneuver the pushchair in tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have swivel front wheels to aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability with which they can be pushed. This is particularly useful when you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to prevent hitting it.

A lot of lightweight 3 wheel pushchair wheeled pushchairs come with air-filled tyres that allow them to navigate a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures, so you'll need a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump handy.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo Lux are among our favorite 3 wheel stroller with car seat-wheelers. These buggies, as per MFM's Kath, have larger wheels which according to her "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles", and can easily climb or descend kerbs. They also have suspension that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps extremely effectively".

Buggies with larger wheels can be quite large, and they may be a challenge to fit into narrow spaces. This is a problem when you're using it for an exercise bike or to be able to get through doors that are narrow when out and about. Fortunately, many models come with compact folding options that let you take off the front wheels to create more compact storage.

Easy to Manoeuvre

A three-wheeler can be more comfortable to drive with a child. The way they are built ensures that the front wheels turn on a dime and are extremely easy to maneuver and are ideal for difficult terrains like cobbles, parks, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a best 3 wheel buggy-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough terrain with the swivel rear wheel particularly useful. I was also awed by the way it handled kerbs with the hand-operated break. I found it extremely stable when going downhill or over uneven ground."

The only drawback to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel stroller lightweight wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you should keep in mind when your home is an urban area. If this is a problem then a 4-wheeler might be a better choice for you.

This creates a lower centre of gravity for your baby at the perfect height and also provides excellent weight distribution to make it easier to climb over curbs (it is much easier to push a stroller up and down than you may think). MFM reviewer Kath said it's ideal on cobbles and grass. It's also a great alternative for running, thanks to its air-filled tyres and the lockable swivel wheel.

Kath, our MFM reviewer, also appreciated the spaciousness of the buggy. There's a large, easily accessible basket that's huge for a buggy of this size as well as an easy-to-use pouch that zips up on the rear of the seat unit and even two smaller mesh pockets under the hood for your phone and keys.
