Titration

A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This includes an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your assessment, you will be informed if medication would be beneficial for your situation. This will take place during your follow-up appointment (which can be scheduled in person by video link, in person or by telephone). This process may take a few weeks and requires gradually altering your child’s medication until the appropriate balance is reached. It is crucial that parents participate in the titration and be aware of their child's behavior so they can inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing adverse reactions.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment, you will receive an individual prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You will be required to attend every six months to check your medication - this includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also mandatory.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed you will be able to schedule follow up appointments with the psychiatrist, as appropriate. Typically, the appointment will take place on zoom video call but in certain circumstances it is possible to have an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

At this point we will discuss treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a review of your medication dosage and an examination of any adverse effects you may be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for telephone or online video consultations. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask questions about your family history, the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your life, and any mental health issues that you might be suffering from. ADHD can be a genetic condition, and it's vital to look into your family's history to determine if you're at a higher chance of developing this condition.

It is important to be honest and open with the clinician during this evaluation, as the information they get will be used to determine whether your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria.
