Path of Exile item upgrades; youtube.com,

item upgrader upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to modernized Common or Magic gear due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both armor and weapon items. They boost the stats of whatever item upgrade they are attached to. Upgrades to armor can be found in the world of the game and are available from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged using an expert or higher salvage kit to retrieve upgrade components from other items.

The amount of damage that a piece of armor or weapon can absorb depends on the degree of upgrades. The absorption of damage by an item of armor will increase as it is upgraded to the highest upgrade level. However, it's important note that this will also raise its weight, requiring it to be heavier than it was before.

There are several different types of armor upgrade available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. For example, some upgrades will give the armor a certain number of health points while others make it lighter and stronger. The type of armor upgrade that an item will receive will be identified by the name of the upgrade, as illustrated in the table below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a combination of technology and magic, as identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Furthermore, some upgrades require a fee to use, which is shown by an "Charges" entry in the table below. These charges are continuously updated or never expire depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest method of upgrading armor is by using Iron Ore, which can be found through exploring the surroundings and looting minor loot chests. Titanium is more costly, but is readily available at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied to armor pieces of the highest level. These upgrades can provide a significant boost to stats and are worth the investment, particularly for one-handed weapons.

The player should be aware that upgrading a piece up to the maximum upgrade level will increase its defense values. However, it will also affect its agility and speed. This is why it is generally not recommended to upgrade the majority of armor pieces above +9, because the increase in defense is generally not worth the weight and power costs of the improvements required.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades give players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. For example, an upgrade may improve the damage that is caused by shotgun shells or the accuracy of a rifle sniper. Certain weapons come with special upgrades that enhance their inherent capabilities. These include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and reduces the risk of weapon overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases projectile acceleration for more damage).

Most weapon upgrades require one of three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons and a whetblade. They can be obtained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.

Upgrading a Weapon, Equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee of a set number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars you will need to complete the upgrade. The cost of the upgrades will be less if you have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Before, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay a certain number of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to a higher level of rarity. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level at which point the upgrades would be reset.

It's still possible, but it is dependent heavily on RNG. Instead, you're much better off visiting stores and buying equipment with low upgrade levels, but good base scores and stat distributions. These will then have a chance at gaining you the best tier of benefits and blessings.

To level up quicker, players usually prioritise upgrading their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their squadmates utilize to increase their power. Shepard for instance should upgrade his M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more effective when accompanied with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are utilized in the armor's sockets and weapons, increasing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. They can be made through an process known as jewelry crafting, in which you combine a gem and a number of specific ingredients at a table for jewelry. The higher the quality of the jewel the better the secondary effect. These reagents can be gotten from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses all over the world, or by salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.

The Jeweler can boost the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Based on the level of the jewel it will give different stat boosts when it is inserted into gear, weapons and jewelry.

All kinds of jewels can be made at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a sufficient level to be able to get the privilege of having them. Jewels can be replaced by another jewel without destroying the original. However it is only possible to replace one jewel in an equipment piece only once.

It is common to use more jewels for aesthetic reasons. In addition to enhancing performance, the jewels create a surface that is harder than steel, so the repeated friction with pivots doesn't cause damage as easily.

In addition to the above upgrades, the player can also acquire glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These are a small perk and can be swapped out at any time but aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold and a scattered Crystal. Glyphs are also removed from the inventory, and they are returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as aegis or traits cannot be exchanged, and can only be recovered with an upgrade item extractor, or salvaging with a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or Ascended Salvage tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that offer an array of tiny but valuable advantages to your hero. They can be acquired starting in the areas of starting as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and through doing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket a player unlocks will be the cloak. It grants a small but useful bonus to speed of movement and evasion. The player will then be able to acquire rings, amulets and necklaces in a similar manner as they did with weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment comes with a slot for an upgrade which can be universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be placed in any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and only works with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't in combat. This allows the hero to perform better when they are not active and also helps to compensate for the absence of a solid team or any talent tree slots which would normally be filled with hero's ideal stats.

As a rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best item upgrade in Slot) items that you will not replace anytime soon. Also, consider items with desirable stats that aren't as important as the iLevel of the item that is to be upgraded. This is especially true if you want to upgrade multiple stats on an item. It is better to upgrade one important stat rather than two suboptimal ones.

At the beginning of the game junglers will usually want to upgrade their yellow trinket into a red one in the middle and top players usually choose a green or pink ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's ability to control his map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players can also discover other trinkets in form trophies and rewards throughout the game. These can be earned through completing certain milestones within the story. For instance, finishing a chapter’s main quest or defeating the boss. You can check them out by selecting the achievement from the reward section of the hero's menu.
