WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item level upgrade (i loved this) has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for the latter due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item upgrader kit level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same Best item upgrader from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons, tools, armor, and accessories. They are purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the item slot and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found in many places, including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrades upgrader at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit and a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. Once an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This is even if the items come from another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a variety of options when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests can only be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade item costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't too difficult however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the Best item upgrade equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, that will be able to avail the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
