Path of Exile Item Upgrades

The performance of many Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading the performance of them. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment is often superior to upgraded Common or Magic gear due to their high demands.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a type of upgrade that can be applied to weapon and armor items. They boost the stats of whatever item they are connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Additionally, they can be salvaged from items that have upgrade components in them using a specialist or more powerful salvage kit.

The amount of damage a piece of armor or weapon will absorb is contingent on the degree of upgrades. The ability to absorb damage of a piece armor will increase as it is upgraded to the highest upgrade level. It's important to remember that this will increase the weight of the armor, which means it must be more heavy.

There are several kinds of armor upgrades that are available in the game and they all have different effects. For example, some upgrades will give the armor a certain amount of additional health points, while others will make it lighter and stronger. The type of armor upgrade that an item can get will be indicated by the name of the upgrade, as indicated in the table below.

Certain upgrades require magic or a hybrid technology and magic, which are shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Certain upgrades also require fees for use. These are indicated as "Charges" entries in the table. The charges associated with these upgrades change every day or never expire, depending on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest method to upgrade your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small chests. Titanium is more expensive however, it is available at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to higher level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide a significant improvement in stats and are a worthwhile cost, especially for single-handed weapons.

The player must be aware that upgrading a piece to the maximum upgrade level will increase its defense value. However, it can also affect the speed and agility of the piece. For this reason, it is typically not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces that are higher than +9 because the increase in defense is usually not worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades required.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades give players the ability to improve certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can boost the accuracy of a rifle or the damage that shotgun shells do. Certain weapons also come with upgrades that enhance their inherent capabilities. These include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and decreases the chance of weapon overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases the speed of projectiles to cause more damage).

The majority of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade, one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These are obtained through either doing side quests, or killing a certain number of bosses or monsters, or through the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.

To upgrade the weapon, equipment set piece or Whetblade you need to visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee that is a certain number of Bars. The more bars needed to complete an upgrade, the more advanced the level. The cost of upgrades will be lower if have more than one of the upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Prior to Chapter 2: Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon and equipment by paying a specific number of Bars. You could continue to do this until you reached a max upgrade level of the equipment or weapon, following which the upgrades would be reset.

It's still possible, but it depends heavily on RNG. Instead, you're much better off going to the stores and buying equipment that has low upgrade levels but excellent base scores and stat distributions. These items have a higher likelihood of granting you most prestigious tier of blessings and perks.

Most players will want to prioritize weapon upgrades for the weapons they use most frequently to help them level up faster. Players should also upgrade the weapons their teammates utilize to increase their power. Shepard for instance should upgrade his M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more useful when used with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are placed in the armor's sockets and weapons, increasing a stat and providing secondary effects. They can be made through an process known as jewelry crafting, where you combine a gemstone and several chemicals at a table. The higher the level of the jewel, the better its secondary effect. These reagents can be obtained around the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and sometimes by salvaging Legendary equipment. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The Jeweler can enhance the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. Based on the level of the gem, it will provide a different stat boosts when it is inserted into gear, weapons and jewelry.

The Jeweler can create the highest levels of gems with the exception of rare and legendary ones that you must attain an appropriate level to obtain. Like other upgrade components jewels are able to be swapped with another identical jewel without damaging it. However, you can only replace the jewels in an item of equipment only once.

It is normal to use more jewels to enhance the appearance of. The jewels also improve performance and create a harder surface than steel so that repeated friction from pivots does not damage them.

In addition to the above-mentioned upgrades additionally, players can acquire glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs give a slight boost and can be exchanged, however they are not guaranteed to be available as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold, and also scattered Crystal. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components like traits or aegis cannot be swapped, and can only be retrieved by using an Upgrade extractor or salvaging using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are pieces of equipment that provide a wide range of tiny but valuable advantages to your hero. They are available in the starter area as loot or personal story rewards. They can also be obtained from vendors and by doing road interaction. They can also be made by jewelers and later found or purchased at the Trading Post.

The first trinkets a player can unlock is the cloak, which grants an unimportant but beneficial boost to movement speed and evasion. After that, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same way to how a player can acquire weapons and armor. Every piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and can be utilized on any equipment. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.

These trinkets also grant additional buffs and skills that are active even when the character is not in combat. This lets a hero become more efficient even when not in combat. It can also make up for the lack of a good team or talent tree slots which are usually filled by the hero's optimal stats.

As a general rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best item upgrader in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace soon. Then, you should consider any items with desirable statistics that aren't as important as the iLevel of the item upgrader mod (check here) that is to be upgraded. This is especially true when you're looking to upgrade several stats on an Best item upgrader. It is more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat than two less important ones.

At the beginning of the game, junglers will usually want to upgrade their yellow trinket into a red one, while top and middle players usually choose either a pink or green ward (depending on the matchup). These choices can affect the hero's ability to manage the map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players will also discover other trinkets in form of rewards and trophies throughout the game. These can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story, like the main quest of a chapter or killing a certain boss. They can be viewed by selecting the appropriate achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
