Kids Beds Bunk

Bunk beds can add drama and adventure to a child's space. Ms. Keenan adds a shelf to store books or a reading lamp in every sleeping nook to make bunk beds more attractive to children.

Many of our kids beds bunk are convertible to two beds that are complete ideal if you are planning to have your children move into their own bedrooms in the near future. Choose from finishes like brushed gray, creamy white and rich walnut.

Stairs and Ladders

When choosing kids bunk bed beds bunk, you have the option to choose between ladders or stairs. Ladders are easy to install and are also less expensive. They also provide an easy way to climb into the top bunk bed. They are more secure than stairs, as they provide a wider surface for children to walk on, and also have a handrail that is integrated. Ladders also usually have grooves in the steps which can prevent slippage while climbing up or down the bed for kids.

If you prefer the design and appearance of stairs, then they can make an elegant addition to your bunk bed. Staircases can also be utilized in rooms with limited space since they aren't as imposing as ladders. They are typically made of metal or wood and can be a great match for the various styles of bedrooms. Some staircases come with storage drawers that are an excellent way to expand the size of bunk beds.

When choosing between a ladder and stairs, you should also consider the age of your child. While it is recommended no one sleeps on the top bunk under the age of 6, older children who are comfortable with vertical climbing might be better off using stairs than a ladder. If you intend to use your bunk bed to accommodate guests, for example, older children or adults who have limited mobility, it is best to choose stairs.

A straight staircase that runs along the side of the bed requires 95" of space on each side. If you don't have the space, you could opt for an u-shaped staircase that doesn't require as much space however it still allows you to get access to the top bunk safely and securely. Certain beds let you detach the stairs when not being used. This reduces the size of the bed and makes it more adaptable to multi-purpose spaces. There are also staircases that connect to the ends of the bed and eliminate the need for a separate handrail, and makes it easier for children to climb up and down.

Guard Rails

Guard rails let kids climb in and out of their beds on their own, giving them an experience of independence and security. However, they must be placed properly, making sure that there are no gaps or movement occurs between guard rails and the bed frame. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines when installing guard rails, and be sure to examine them regularly to ensure that they aren't loose or have holes that could lead to trapping.

Keep bunk beds out of electrical appliances and other things that could become projectiles when your children are playing or sleeping. Position bunk beds away from windows to avoid an injury to fall risk when your children climb up on the top level.

A safety feature you may want to consider is a night light for the ladder; it can help illuminate the path up and down in the event that children wake at night to go to the bathroom or are woken by a storm and have to get from their bedroom safely.

A safety net could be placed on the top of the bunk to prevent children from falling off while they're sleeping or playing. This is a great idea for older children, who are more likely to sleep in the top bunk.

Guardrails must be securely attached to the bunk bed's structure and must not be removed without the use tools. Openings in the guardrails above the mattress foundation should not be larger than 3.5 inches to avoid strangulation and entrapment. Place the wedge block as shown on Figure 1 in each of the openings in the topmost guardrail member and over the mattress foundation. Then apply 33-lbf (147-N) force in a perpendicular direction to the plane of the larger end of the block, and sustain it for 1 minute.

It's a good idea inform your children to not hang any items on the guardrail or ladder, such as belts, clothing, and sports equipment. Instead you should utilize a clothes rack to prevent these items from becoming a strangulation risk for your child. Also, make sure that more than one child is not sleeping on the top floor of the bunk, since this could create a dangerous imbalance which may cause falling.

Mattresses

Be aware of the age of your child and their size when choosing a mattress for bunk bed. A bunk mattress should last for at least eight years or until siblings do not share the same bedroom, so you'll want to choose a mattress that is designed to expand with your child, while providing adequate support as they get older.

There are a variety of bunk mattress sizes. They are usually twin or full size. If your child is suffering from asthma or allergies, opt for an allergy-free mattress that has a dust-mite barrier and moisture-wicking cover. Children are prone to a lot of accidents and spills, so a mattress with an antimicrobial layer will help to shield the foam from harmful bacteria and germs.

Another factor to consider is the feeling of your mattress. Children typically weigh less than adults, so they require an item that is firm but is also comfortable. Many latex and hybrid mattresses have a firm and a soft side to accommodate the needs of both children.

Memory foam mattresses are a good choice for kids but we don't recommend them as they tend not to cool properly and could be a strain on the spines of young children. Consider a latex or hybrid mattress, which provides strong support and cooling infusions to your child or guests to sleep comfortably.

A mattress with a low profile is usually the best choice for children's bunk beds. They are designed to be less bulky than standard mattresses, and increase the height of the safety rails on the top bunk. They also minimize "filler" materials to provide the highest quality in slim designs.

Think about an innerspring model or hybrid with upper comfort layers which can be removed and replaced as your child develops. These models will give you an idea of how the mattress will perform as your child grows and you can always add the mattress skirt or mattress pad to stop it from sliding off the frame. Some mattresses have side rails or a lip that are built-in to stop this.

Stores

Bunk beds are an excellent alternative to save space in shared children's rooms. They also can be a cheaper alternative to purchasing two separate full sized single beds. Many bunks allow to add a trundle which can be put underneath the bottom bunk when not being used.

To maximize space and storage in a room with bunk beds, consider creating a kids' bedroom furniture set which includes desks, dressers and/or bookcases. This will allow you keep all your child's clothing along with toys and other personal items in one spot instead of stuffing everything into overstuffed closets or chests. These sets of bedroom furniture can be found at a variety of retailers. They are safe to use and meet federal standards.

Stacked bunks can become an imaginative playground as kids can transform the spaces underneath into cosy hidden play areas and hideaway spaces. Designer Elizabeth Georgantas stacked 6 bunks in this room for the ultimate play space for kids bunkbed that can be used for playing, sleeping and even twirling superhero capes. The room features the bubble wallcovering of Chasing Paper and a ceiling painted in Benjamin Moore Blue Jean to create the ultimate getaway.

If you are unable to build a staircase to your stacked bunk beds then a ladder is an option. The ladders are constructed using a single socket Flange, Single Socket, and 90 Degree Side Outlet Fittings. They can be easily adjusted to increase or decrease distance between ladder rungs. The ladder rungs can also be placed flush with the ground, rather than higher, to make climbing easier.

Installing loft beds that can be raised to just above the floor is another method to maximize the space of the bunk bed room. This allows you to slide desks, dressers and toy chests right under the beds. This is a great way to maximize space in small bedrooms or in large family homes where beds need to be sufficient for multiple people to sleep.
